I have learned and grown in countless ways over the course of my 18+ years as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with couples, children, families, and individuals. One of the most profound truths I am reminded of daily is that, as many others have said, we are wired for connection. The relationships in which we thrive are predictable by their sense of connection, security, and healthy interdependence. Equally predictable are the experiences of people in relationships characterized by disconnection and insecurity- these are often the stories I hear from clients at the beginning of therapy. My life’s work is the transition for people from mere survival in life to thriving, both personally and relationally, through healthy connection.

I received a Master’s of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s in 2000, and a doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Iowa State University in 2004. I taught marriage and family therapy, child development, and play therapy at the graduate and doctoral level for seven years before entering private practice in 2009. I established the Institute for Couple and Family Enhancement in 2010.

I am a Founding Member of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TAMFT) and Approved Supervisor by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists (www.dhhs.state.tx.us.mft/). As a marriage and family therapist, I have significant training and experience that makes me uniquely qualified to provide therapy for couples and families.

I am also a published scholar in the fields of family therapy and play therapy. I have presented at the local, state, and national levels on the topics of play therapy, family therapy, behavior problems in children, and couple therapy.
